THE Bookery in Crediton is celebrating Independent Bookshop Week (June 18 to 25) with author events, storytime and celebrity booksellers.

The Bookery will be joining bookshops across the country to celebrate Independent Bookshop Week (IBW).

IBW was launched in 2006 as a celebration of independent bookshops nationwide, and the role “indies” play in their communities with visits from authors and illustrators, events, activities and special publisher promotions.

The Bookery events:

• Saturday, June 18 from 12 noon to 1pm - Meet the Celebrity Booksellers, authors Sarah McIntyre and Philip Reeve as well as Ilustration Clinics with author- illustrator Sarah McIntyre.

• Tuesday, June 21 from 9.30am to 10am - Storytime - stories, goodie bags and lots of fun. Followed at 7pm with an evening with Patrick Gale and Jim Causley.

• Wednesday, June 22 at 7pm - An evening with author Emma Stonex

• Saturday, June 25 from 9.30-12.30pm - Design your favourite book character on a T-shirt followed by an Introduction To Creative Work Masterclass at 10am to 11.30am.

This year there will be £5 book-tokens for the first 100 customers plus book recommendations and activities throughout the week.

The Bookery became community owned in 2013 and this year it won The British Book Awards for Independent Bookshop of the Year and Children’s Bookseller of the Year 2022.
