THE Christmas spirit of giving, friendship and community is very much alive in Crediton.

Our choir, the Crediton Singers, raised £514 for Devon Young Carers at our concert at the Parish Church last Saturday afternoon, December 16. This despite the busy seasonal schedule of concerts and with high overheads and expenses for the event.

A total of 120 people attended the concert but its success would not have been possible without their kind donations and the fantastic sponsorship we received from local businesses: Crediton Dairy, Wortham Jacques, Graphic Plc, XS Wraps, Helmores, the Old Fire Station Steakhouse, Ashton’s Coffee Lounge, Kirton Kayaks, Botting’s Decorators, Once Read Bookshop, Dolphin Stairlifts (SW Ltd), Kensa Boudoir Photography, and Nikki Blandford Hairdressing all contributed.

They showed that Christmas is about giving, about doing something for other people. This is the powerful message that must go out this year and every year.

The Crediton Singers choir was founded with the specific aim of supporting local charities and we are proud to have raised several thousand pounds in the few short years we’ve been active.

At this time of year people start thinking about what they’re going to do in the New Year. Might I suggest that they come along to Crediton United Football Club on Monday evenings and join us?

Singing is good for you, community is vital and local charities will need more help than ever in 2018.
