THANK YOU for refraining from joining in the media frenzy over the "religious" row surrounding Landscore School.

It is refreshing to see a journalist reporting the facts of this incident instead of twisting them to fit sensationalist headlines like some of those in the national newspapers.

Disappointingly, even the Express and Echo at Exeter joined in by claiming that a pupil was "told off at school for talking of God".

They did at least publish a subsequent article about the overwhelming support from parents for the school's actions.

I find it very worrying that the media can create such a fuss over this discussion between two young children which left one of them in tears.

It could have been about anything, but just happened to be about Christianity, a current "hot topic" for the some of our sensationalist press and guaranteed to spark a fierce debate.

The teacher's and head teacher's handling of the matter would have been the same whatever the topic of conversation had been which upset the child.

It is a very sad indictment of society that so many people are writing into the press that the incident would have been handled differently if the child involved had been a Muslim not a Christian.

What absolute rubbish! I have 100 per cent confidence that the issue would have been handled in exactly the same way and if the child was upset by a Muslim child threatening damnation for the non-Muslim there would be an outcry if it wasn't (probably from those who are condemning the school now).

It is a shame that the staff at our school have had to spend a massive amount of time and energy dealing with this media onslaught instead of on running such an excellent school. I hope there has been no lasting damage done to its good name.
