COURIER readers' response to my recent letter requesting help in the search for Bert Burridge has resulted in a happy meeting between my friend, David Hawkings, and members of the Crediton and Australian branches of the Burridge family. Many years ago, David shared a flat in London with a Bert Burridge who later married a Spanish lady and emigrated to Australia. Well, it turned out that our Bert was actually Christened Michael Burridge. Through your readers I was put in touch with Bert's elder brother, Les Burridge of Blagdon Close, who told me that his brother had died several years ago, but his wife, three children and grandchildren were all still in Australia. One of Bert's (Michael) sons, Santi Burridge, who lives and works in Sydney, Australia came to visit his uncle Les in Crediton en-route to the USA and I arranged a reunion meeting with David Hawkings, Les Burridge and Santi Burridge on September 10 in Crediton. It was very gratifying to meet Les, Shirley and Santi Burridge and to know there are still strong connections between Crediton and Australia. I would like to thank everyone who kindly responded and also to the Courier for publishing the letter. Judi Binks Kennerleigh
