A TEA Dance to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One was held at Black Dog Memorial Hall on Saturday, November 24.
The theme for the afternoon was something of the 1914-18 period, fancy dress was encouraged and a bring and share tea proved to be quite a spread.
David Simms provided the organ music and played songs from that time. Alan Hill had given a few people some dance lessons beforehand so that they weren’t completely clueless, but fortunately there were some accomplished dancers to follow.
After an hour of dancing, some of the children from Morchard Bishop C of E Primary School played the handbells and sang songs including Pack up your Troubles and The White Cliffs of Dover, they were wonderful and had the audience spellbound.
Organisers were grateful to Mrs Rachel Arnold and the children and parents for giving up their time to perform.
There was also a display of photographs, letters and memorabilia from WW1 put together by Jim Pettyfer.
There was no charge for entry to the tea dance but a raffle was run to cover a few costs and a donations pot was available which saw a total of £70 raised.
This will be put towards a Memorial plaque outside the hall in memory of those who fought in WW1.
The Black Dog Memorial Hall was built in memory of those who fought in WW1 .
The annual craft fair held on November 10 was once again a great success and made in excess of £900 for hall funds. Many thanks to those who went along and also the stallholders.
