TWENTY-SIX years ago Mrs Elizabeth Taylor became a supply teacher at Tedburn St Mary School.
She became a permanent member of staff two years later, retiring this term. Married to Steve, they now live at Bow, but 26 years ago were living at Tedburn where both their daughters started school.
When they lived there, Mrs Taylor was involved with Tedburn Amateur Dramatic Society, played in pantomimes there, latterly playing the piano for TADS' autumn shows.
She plays violin with Exeter Symphony Orchestra and has taught violin to large groups at Tedburn. Mrs Taylor also plays the piano at the school.
She enjoys swimming and taking their two Springer Spaniels for walks. One of their daughters lives at Bow, the other at Bridgwater. Mrs Taylor has one grandson with another on the way.
"I shall miss the children and my colleagues at Tedburn," she said. She had taught several second generation of families at Tedburn, is looking forward to catching up with her life and doing things there had not been time for.
On the last day of term the school devoted the afternoon to a farewell presentation, giving Mrs Taylor a book of memories and pictures from each class plus big cards they had made. Gifts included a potted acer tree, garden lantern, a watch and flowers.
