TRAINS should be back running on the Tarka Rail line today (Friday, November 8) following a two-week closure for maintenance with buses replacing trains between Crediton and Barnstaple.

Old sleepers have been taken out, stone removed some of which had been on the track since the 1950s, replaced between the new concrete sleepers and much more.

The “Courier” has been told the track will look very smart when completed and the continuous rail, plus the newer trains, will give a smoother journey.

More work is planned between March 30 and April 5 next year after which some speed limits on the line can be raised, improving reliability of the service.
