ATTENDANCE was reduced at the September meeting of Cheriton Fitzpaine Garden Club, due to a conflicting meeting, but those who attended enjoyed an interesting, illustrated talk by Roy Cheek, a distinguished Horticulturist who lives near Bridgwater.

Roy has exhibited at Chelsea (and won gold), and led garden tours all over Europe. He has held two national collections of bog and water-loving plants, and brought some examples for us to see.

He explained the different ways of constructing a pond, and which plants grow well.

Hopefully members are busy growing parsnips for the Great Parsnip Challenge, which will be judged at the December 1 AGM.

Always reviewing our Club procedures, an Extraordinary General Meeting was held on September 8, during which changes to the Constitution were mooted. These will be voted on at the AGM.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, October 20, at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall, when Peter Cantrill will talk about “Unusual Herbaceous Plants”. Visitors are welcome at a cost of £2.
