Andrew Johnson, a master glazier from Exeter, will talk about the “History of Stained Glass and How it is Made”.
Holy Cross Crediton is a most remarkable building full of all sorts of treasures and curiosities but amongst these the stained-glass windows are perhaps the most-high profile.
While Holy Cross does not have any surviving medieval glass, several of the windows are good examples of their time, notably the east window in the lady chapel, a World War One memorial window to Richard Henderson who died at the battle of Jutland and an Arts and Crafts window on the north side of the nave.
One of the window lights in this window depicts Eadulf the first Saxon Bishop of Devon.
In recent months Andrew has completed, thanks to a sizeable grant from the Suez Communities Trust, the installation of new powder-coated stainless steel mesh to 13 stained glass windows at Holy Cross.
He has worked with stained glass since 1980 and has worked at cathedrals, minsters, parish churches and country houses and with many historic conservation groups such as Heritage England, the National Trust and the Devon Historic Churches Trust.
Admission to the talk is £6 and includes light refreshments.
