ADDITIONAL to the recent six Summer Lunchtime Recitals at Crediton Congregational Church, one further recital has been added - on Thursday, September 20.

Robyn and Dodie Bowman, two talented music students from Exeter, will present a programme of European folk melodies, played as violin duets.

The two sisters, who were well received at a Music Makers’ evening concert a year ago, have visited a summer school in northern Germany during the last eight years to study folk music performance.

Robyn studies music at Birmingham Conservatoire, while her younger sister Dodie is completing her final year at school in Exeter.

This final lunchtime recital follows the same format as those in August.

Doors are open at 12.45pm, with a 40-minute performance starting at 1.10pm. Complimentary refreshments will be served beforehand.

Admission is free, but donations towards the musicians’ expenses are very welcome.

Paul Vincent, organiser of the Music Makers’ events, says: “The Summer recitals series has again gone well. Now in their fifth year, they offer a useful opportunity for locally-based musicians to present often unusual and surprising programmes of music in front of an informal and appreciative audience.

“Music during the series has included classical, folk and jazz improvisations, including an a capella trio, a string quartet, recitals by soprano with piano, and piano solo performances.

The following musicians took part: Alison Routh (soprano) with Roger Stephenson (piano); Margaret Aagesen Hughes (soprano) with Andrew Wilson (piano); the Obligato String Quartet (led by Rebecca Willson); Sparrows Web vocal trio (Laura Baudin, Deborah Hamilton and Annie Quicke; Dhevdhas Nair (piano); Alex Wilson (piano).

“These events have been made possible through the generous support of Crediton Town Council, as well as by the Congregational Church providing the venue at no cost. Concert events at Crediton Congregational Church are also supported by Stapletons chartered accountants, and the printed programmes are sponsored by Hillbrow Residential Care Home – to all of whom grateful thanks!”
