GEMMA Richardson, a talented dance student from the Katharine Mitchell School of Dance, based in Crediton, has successfully secured a place at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London where she will be start training in September.
Katharine says: “Gemma has been with my dance school for nearly 15 years and has trained in ballet, jazz, tap, street jazz and modern dance. She has assisted me with the younger students for many years and has performed, taught and choreographed for our annual show.
“She is a beautiful dancer and I am so proud of her dedication, determination and achievements.”
At the age of 16 Gemma developed an acute scoliosis and underwent major surgery to straighten her spine with metal rods. She made a remarkable recovery and has since achieved distinction in her Grade 7, 8 and Intermediate RAD exams.
Gemma is currently undertaking A levels in drama, dance and geography at Queen Elizabeth’s School, in Crediton. During the year she has also been auditioning at dance schools around the country.
As well as securing a place with Italia Conti, she has also been offered places at Ballet West in Scotland, Northern Ballet School in Manchester and London Studio Centre.
Gemma says: “Katharine has been an amazing teacher and has got me to where I am today. I am thrilled to have been selected for Italia Conti and I can’t wait to start training.”
