THE hot topic of Fracking will be top of the agenda at Sustainable Crediton's AGM at 7.30pm sharp, on Wednesday March 26, at the Boniface Centre, Crediton.

Simon Tytherleigh, a popular local speaker on green topics, will ask whether this new source of energy is a "Golden Goose or a Dead Duck - all are welcome.

The AGM, which follows the talk, will be a good chance to catch up with new developments at Sustainable Crediton and to get involved with new and existing groups.

The energy group, for example, is developing plans for a community-owned company to generate electricity locally.

Linda Lever said: "We've done a lot of work and research on this and are applying for a grant for a feasibility study.

"There will be a public meeting at the Football Club, by the Leisure Centre, on April 9 at 7.30pm, when we will be able to say much more about our plans."

The Transport Group has also been busy, campaigning for the Boniface Trail, a cycle route from Crediton to Exeter.

"This project has good support," said Laura Conyngham, "however, with routes planned elsewhere in Devon, we must keep up the pressure.

"Ours should be high priority because, while the distance is manageable for zero-carbon commuters, the A377 is so dangerous for cyclists."

"Other things are happening too," continued Laura, "We are road-testing cycle rides in the Crediton area for a new leaflet.

"Group cycle rides take place on the last Sunday of every month.

"Join us for our next one on Sunday March 30, leaving the Town Square, at 11am for the Lamb, Sandford."

Several new ideas for Sustainable Crediton came out of its event, Back to the Future, held on January 25,.

From these, new ideas are emerging. These include a new group which plans to develop initiatives to support local trade and others looking at Community Supported Agriculture, Fighting Fuel Poverty and encouraging more Local Skill Sharing.

Core group Chair John Skrine said: "It was really exciting to see so many people come forward with great ideas at our January event.

"Now we must keep up the momentum, and the AGM will be a good chance to talk more about these plans and meet people involved."
