ON Monday, May 16, two young people opened their own flower shop in Newton St Cyres hoping to raise lots of money for the charity, “Send a Cow”.

For the past few months, Ellie (5) and May (3) have been diligently growing their sunflowers from seed to sell in their shop to help children and families in Africa.

The sunflowers are now ready and the young entrepreneurs set up shop at the bottom of their drive.

Ellie co-founder of the shop said: “Lots of children pass our house on their way to school so we thought we’d be able to sell lots of sunflowers to our school mates.”

May, Ellie’s younger sister and co-founder of the shop said: “We aren’t allowed to miss school so we have left a pot for people to put their money in. We’re really excited to see how much money we can raise.”

Send a Cow works with families in Africa and for £7 can buy chickens which provide meat and up to 200 eggs a year.

Donations which amount to £14 can buy a keyhole garden that allows a family to grow enough food for three meals a day.

By donating to Send a Cow, families can be lifted out of poverty for good, not just for a few years.

Contributions help build a confident and thriving rural Africa: village-by-village, region-by-region and country-by-country. The charity says support will lead to permanent change where people are happier, families are more harmonious and children are educated.
