IT was a real village event at Spreyton when the local school and church joined together for a summer fayre in the village hall and field.
There were games, stalls including crafts, plants, cakes, a barbecue run by Roger Cudlip of the Tom Cobley Tavern down the road, who also ran the bar, plus cream teas and other refreshments served in the hall.
Music was provided by Bill’s Bargain Basement Band with a wide selection. It was an almost perfect day, sunny and not too breezy.
The fayre was organised by a joint committee headed by Lesley Jewell from St Michael’s Church and Hannah Dalton from Spreyton Primary School. More than £2,000 was raised to be split between the two groups.
The dog show was run by Carol Newton of Dogzlife Dog Day Care based in Spreyton. Best in show was owned by Sharon Wright of Okehampton, runner-up was the dog shown by Matt Baker of Spreyton. Thanks go to everyone who supported and who helped raise an amazing amount of money.
The church bells rang through the afternoon as 13 teams from a large area competed for the Viscount Lambert shield and certificates.
