IT was touch and go that parents would make it on to Dartmoor in time to see the Chulmleigh Community College teams come in - they set such a pace in this year’s Ten Tors Challenge!

The first team, dressed in bright yellow, appeared over the horizon between Row Tor and West Mill and confidently strode across the finish line at 10.15am.

After receiving their Bronze medal for the 35-mile challenge and in a strong display of camaraderie, the team dumped their rucksacks and returned to the moor – some of them now hobbling with painful blisters – to await the arrival of the second Chulmleigh team.

They were very easy to spot with their multi-coloured, glittery cowboy hats and they cantered across the finish line at 11.15am on a selection of home-made hobby horses!

There were also pupils from Chulmleigh College taking part with a number of other establishments including Frankie Ellis and Sam Stephenson who completed 35 miles for the Mid Devon Explorers, with Megan Cannon as their Reserve, and Tristan Rickard who completed the 35-mile route with Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton.
