A STUDENT from Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton and his ex-serviceman grandfather took part in the Remembrance Parade in front of the Cenotaph in London last weekend.

Douglas Coningsby-Pogson (13), who lives near Bow, is a keen sea cadet at Tiverton and hugely military minded.  His grandfather, Michael Norris (73), was a group captain in the RAF.

They both marched in the parade in London and also both took part two years ago.

On both occasions Douglas and Michael marched with the RAF veterans.

Douglas’s proud mum, Sophia Coningsby, told the “Courier”: “Douglas has always been very military minded and has a military museum in his bedroom.

“He spends his money (when he has it) buying militaria especially from the two World Wars.

“He’s a great military historian too with a great interest in World War One, but is interested in all countries military history.

“Douglas’s grandfather retired from the RAF as a group captain in 1999. He served in the Falklands war and was awarded the Queen’s Commendation and MBE.

“Douglas and his grandfather do a great many military things together, and last year went on a tour of World War One battle grounds in France and Belgium.

“Doug’s ambition is to join the Royal Marines.”
