CREDITON Mayor Cllr Frank Letch has given a pledge that the Town Council is seeking the best possible bus service for the town and will oppose any plan to introduce parking charges for the High Street.

Writing in the council's own news sheet he repeats that although the shop situation in the High Street continues to cause concern, "there seem to be more openings than closures".

Following his return from an official visit to Avranches, Crediton's French twinning town, he comments: "I was amazed that this town of 9,000 inhabitants is served by a mayor and eight deputy mayors and that their budget is six million euros. Our precept is £115,000.*
