WITHERIDGE will be the place to be when St John’s Fayre is held on Saturday, June 25.
Fayre day runs from 10am to midnight on Saturday, June 21 and includes a packed programme of events and activities, for all the family.
The Charter permitting the Fayre was granted in 1248 and there began the long tradition of the event.
Events begin with a range of stalls opening at 10am, including craft and local produce stalls.
The Parade starts at 11.15am with marching bands and entertainers, including Street Heat Samba Band, Tiverton Town Majorettes, Tarka Pipe Band, Winkleigh Morris, Crediton Town Band, a stilt walker and Captain Coconut.
After the reading of the Royal Charter, the village children start off the entertainment in The Square then the festivities continue in the Parish Hall grounds with music, dancing, entertainers, a fun family dog show, stalls, and lots more.
When you get hungry there will be a choice of home-made cakes, sandwiches and hot and freshly cooked food. There will be a licensed bar and a grand raffle with great prizes.
In the evening there will be live entertainment in The Hub with the band “Revolvin’ Door”.
Funlands Funfair will be in Witheridge from Thursday, June 23 to Saturday, June 25.
Entry to the Fayre is free of charge, there is free parking and plenty of entertainment. Event programmes are available at 50p from Witheridge Newsagents.
On Sunday, June 26, there will be a morning outdoor church service in the Square.
This will be followed by Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Car Boot Sale (12 noon - 4pm; sellers from 11am, for £5 a pitch) in The Hub and Parish Hall grounds. There will be a Best Dressed Ted competition and the Witheridge Bake Off competition.
