CREAM TEA. A much larger than expected attendance filled the village hall for a cream tea organised by the Spreyton branch of the Central Devon Lib Dem Association.
It was an opportunity for everyone to meet the Lib Dem prospective Parliamentary candidate Phil Hutty for the forthcoming General Election.
Many areas in the large constituency were represented with Phil Page introducing Phil Hutty and also thanking the local branch for organising the successful event.
He extended thanks to everyone that attended and helped on the day and also brought cakes and draw prizes.
Phil Hutty said he was very pleased to attend the event and had already been to many places in the constituency at present and was very encouraged by being well received when calling on the voters.
He told the gathering he was born in Plymouth and now lives with his wife and child near Launceston, close to the divisional boundary.
He spent the whole time going from table to table inviting everyone to ask him questions on any issue that may be concerning them.
Also attending the event was the former Lib Dem MP for the area, Lord John Burnett and his wife.
John told everyone it was very important to support Phil and return him to the Commons as this area had a traditional Liberal tendency.
The Lambert family had represented parts of the constituency for many years as Liberals and lived in Spreyton.
The cream teas were organised by Phil Tucker, helped by her husband and friend Ann Winsor.
The raffle was organised by Inge Castle, helped by Eve Collins and Angela Hawkins. Ken Vile organised the publicity of the event.
Also during the event a large cheque was presented by the chairman to Phil for election expenses.
The local branch extended thanks to all helpers and those who donated food, prizes for the raffle and cash to party funds.
Joint Service. Being the fourth Sunday the regular joint service with Hittisleigh and Spreyton took place at St Andrew's Church, Hittisleigh.
The service was conducted by the local LWL Ann Foreman.
Lesson readers were A Matthews of Hittisleigh and B Bromage from Spreyton and prayers were led by Libby from Hittisleigh.
At the end of the service Shirley Partridge, one of the church wardens at Hittisleigh, presented a photo of the church to Ann Foreman, on behalf of the local PCC.
This was the final service that Ann would be acting as their LWL as she has moved away, but would continue to support the church and also continue with her deanery work.
Members of the local PCC provided tea, coffee and cakes at the close of service - very much enjoyed by all present.
