CHILDREN from Spreyton Primary School made a special time capsule to mark the 575th anniversary of St Michael’s Church at Spreyton.

It was presented to the church by many of the children who put the time capsule together and the plan is that it is hidden in the church and will be opened in 25 years when the church marks it 600th anniversary.
The School Head Teacher Emma Donne explained what was in the time capsule to those gathered in the church, although did not give all of the details of what it included.

Inside were toys, fidget spinners, pictures of some of the children, pictures they had painted, a booklet made by the older class, some school uniform, paintings of Spreyton Church and letters to the children themselves to read in 25 years time.
The Head Teacher included a letter and there were also many other items.

The time capsule was received by the churchwarden.
There were historical displays in the church as well as activities for the children, including finding interesting items.
There was a special visit to the church by Spreyton’s oldest resident, Douglas Endacott (92) and his wife Betty (89), who were married in the church 66 years ago on October 26.

There was an impressive display of sword fighting outside by Mystic Swords, which was quite impressive and drew a crowd to watch.
Afterwards the children were invited to learn sword fighting using plastic foam swords.

Cream teas were available at the Tom Cobley public house throughout the day.
The following day, Sunday, September 27, there was a Commemorative Service held in the church followed by a bring and share lunch in the church grounds.
