A SPARKLING ensemble of wind players will play for the Saint Boniface Concert Society June concert at Crediton Parish Church on Thursday, June 28, from 7.30pm.
The Magnard Ensemble is a wind quintet made up of five young soloists playing oboe, clarinet, flute, French horn and bassoon.
They are: Suzie Clements - flute; Mana Shibata - oboe; Joseph Shiner - clarinet; Catriona McDermid - bassoon; Jonathan Farey - horn.
This experienced wind quintet made its international debut in Lucerne in January 2017.
At present the members are selected artists for the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust. They come to Crediton as members of the Tillett Trust Young Artists Platform.
Individually they play with many orchestras including the London Philharmonic and the Royal Northern Sinfonia amongst others. They have performed at several Festivals and in venues across the country.
The programme will include two American works, Samuel Barber’s Summer music and “Pastorale” by Amy Beach (born in 1867), who was the first acclaimed female American composer.
The programme also includes Ligeti’s witty bagatelles and an Adagio by Mozart.
The Saint Boniface Concert Society say this will be a wonderful concert to introduce young people to the colourful world of the wind quintet, with it’s rich sonorities and interesting instruments.
The Magnard Ensemble recently released a highly-praised CD of music for Ronald Dahl’s “Revolting Rhymes” and will also be playing music by its composer, Paul Patterson at the Crediton concert.
Tickets are available from the website: www.bonifaceconcerts.co.uk/tickets , from AE Lee Outfitters in Crediton High Street or will be available at the door.
