SIGNIFICANT Seams, a social enterprise that uses textile and crafts to build community and support people, has scheduled free art workshops for carers across Mid Devon starting next Tuesday, April 9.

The project will host a six-week series in Crediton, Tiverton and Cullompton. An additional set of sessions will be held in conjunction with Art Raft in Moretonhampstead.

The sessions will be run with four artists who bring international and award winning credentials. Each series of sessions will engage people in a range of art making techniques - including fabric printing, sculpting, designing and stitching.

The activities will be social and fun - and lead towards a collaborative creation that those taking part will help plan and construct with the artistic team. The art work will debut in National Carers Week in mid-June.

Carers are urged to go along to a workshop. Dependents are also welcome to most groups. Interested carers should contact Katherine Marsland, the Community Associate, on 07590 421 151 to get advice about the best series for them.

In Crediton there will be two sessions each week - Tuesdays 1-3pm, from April 9 at Crediton Arts Centre, and Thursdays 11am-1pm, from April 11 at The Turning Tides Project, Crediton Station Tea Rooms.

In Tiverton, there will also be two sessions each week - Tuesdays 10am-12 noon at Heathcoat Community Centre from April 10, and Fridays (excluding Good Friday) 1-3pm from April 12 at Sunningmead Community Centre.

Contact the project to discuss the possibility of joining the weekly session in Cullompton - which happens on Wednesday mornings.

Crediton Town Council, Arts Council England and The National Lottery Community Fund are all directly supporting the initiative.

In addition to leading publicly funded projects, Significant Seams offer a range of services including consultancy in the art, health & well-being space, workshop programmes for schools and groups, and provision of bulk or bespoke craft supplies and kits.
