A neighbour heard a smoke detector activating and could see smoke through the window, and immediately called Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, the Fire Service receiving the call at 10am.
Upon arrival crews confirmed a fire on the hob which they put out using a hose reel jet and by removing the items to open air.
Crews also used a thermal imaging camera and short extension ladder.
A Fire Service spokesperson said: “The cause of the fire was accidental, but thankfully due to a working smoke detector this alerted the neighbours and the fire crews attended before it escalated.”
