THE A377 between Morchard Road and Lapford is likely to remain closed until early evening today, Saturday, July 15, in both directions following a serious accident involving a car and a motorbike.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at about 1.20pm and at 3pm police traffic officers were establishing a long-term diversion for vehicles.

During the short-term vehicles were using country lanes in the area, which was leading to some congestion and tailbacks.

The collision is believed to have taken place between the B3220 junction with the A377 and Kelland Hill at the notorious Bury Bends, the scene of many similar road traffic accidents.

Police confirmed this afternoon that the motorcyclist has sustained a serious injury and has been airlifted to Derriford Hospital at Plymouth. The spokesman added that there is slow traffic in the area while the accident investigations continue.
