FIRE crews from Witheridge, Chulmleigh and South Molton were sent to reports of a property fire at a house in Cheldon near Chawleigh at 5pm yesterday, Wednesday, October 7.

On arrival crews discovered smoke issuing from the property and requested further crews from North Tawton and Crediton.

The fire involved the kitchen and the ground floor of the farm house.

To fight the fire the crews used two hose reels, one safety jet and one covering jet, four sets of breathing apparatus, sunstrom masks, safety at height equipment, a roof ladder and two triple extension ladders.

The house was 90 per cent damaged by fire and 40 per cent damaged by smoke.

One Ambulance attended to deal with one casualty suffering from smoke inhalation.
