THE Rotary Club of Crediton and the Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface welcomed many guests at their annual senior citizens lunch and party, held at the Boniface Centre on Saturday, December 14.

The lunch and party was all free and included transport to and from the venue. Money for the event was raised by a collection in the High Street and at the Tesco store at Wellparks, which amounted to about £750 including a generous donation of £50 from Morrisons.

There was a glass of sherry or fruit juice for all on arrival, crackers on the table and the Town Band played Christmas Carols.

The lunch was a delicious turkey meal with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding and clotted cream or trifle, then tea or coffee. This was all cooked by Carole Webb and her team of helpers in the kitchen and afterwards she was presented with an orchid.

After lunch, Alan Tonkin called for the bingo, a job he has been doing for the past 27 years... and is a great caller.

One line winners received a box of chocolates, and full house winners received a large tin of chocolates and sweets.

In one game a donated Christmas hamper was the prize for the full house and this was won by Pat Buck.

Gifts for the oldest man and woman, were presented to 94-year-old Kath Wollacott, and Tom Turner, also 94.

President of the Crediton Rotary Club, Malcolm Wilkinson, thanked everyone for attending, and to all the members from both Rotary Clubs.

Brian McLeefy from the Memory Cafe, then thanked all the Rotarians for putting on such a wonderful lunch and party, which he was sure everyone had enjoyed.

The Rotary Club has been arranging this free party for well over 30 years. Anyone one who didn’t go along missed a truly great lunch and afternoon, a big thank you to both Rotary Clubs.
