MORE than a thousand Christmas cards were delivered in Crediton through the First Crediton Scouts Christmas postal service this year.

By kind permission of many shops and businesses, postal boxes and stamp buying facilities were available from November 11 until December 19.

The post boxes were located at the Courier office, Landscore Stores, Bradleys estate agents, Mole Avon Town and Countrywear, Crediton Community Transport offices, the Community Hall at Clifford Gardens and at Lewis's DAR on Lords Meadow Industrial Estate.

The stamps cost just 20p.

No outlying villages were included in the delivery area but many boxes were full.

After December 19 all the cards were collected and delivered by the Scouts and Leaders.

Last year the Scout postal service was declared a big success, raising more than £200 for the Scout funds.

This year, the service was again a success and the profit made was £204.
