SANDFORD’S annual scarecrow trail has helped raise as much as £759.20 this year for the village’s primary school.

Children and families enjoyed finding dozens of scarecrows dotted around the village between Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, September 7 with maps bought from Sandford Community Stores.

Participants voted for Sue Pugsley’s display of two figures riding a dragon, dubbed “Story Time with Zog”, as their favourite. In second place was “The Dog Has Eaten My Homework”, also made by Ms Pugsley.

“It has been lovely to see so many people contributing to, and taking part in, this year's scarecrow trail,” a spokesperson said.

“We really appreciate your support. A big thank-you also goes to all the staff at Sandford Stores for supporting all our efforts.

“Thanks to you, and money raised from the Lamb quiz, we have raised an amazing £759.20 for the school.

“If you have any feedback about the trail, we would love to hear it.

“Well done to Sue Pugsley whose fantastic creation ‘Story Time with Zog’ was voted favourite of the year. Coming second was ‘The Dog Has Eaten My Homework’ also made by Sue, another fantastic entry.

The scarecrow trail is an annual fundraiser for Sandford School. This year’s theme was “school day memories” to celebrate the school’s 200th anniversary.

The milestone was marked with a celebration event on Wednesday, July 2.

Former pupils and staff attended, and there was an exhibition featuring photographs of the school over the years as well as displays about the history of the school made by current pupils.

There was a special celebration cake made by Teaching Assistant Katarzyna Janecka, and a new school flag was unveiled at the event.
