THE Music Makers’ returns with a series of three recitals, to be held weekly at Crediton Congregational Church (CCC), starting this Saturday, July 23 at 4pm.
Flautist Robert Stephenson and pianist Roger Stephenson will open the series. Both are locally-based musicians (incidentally, not from the same family), well-known and admired from previous Music Makers’ appearances.
This is a new day and time for Music Makers’ events, but the aim is to provide an opportunity for as many people as possible to attend, and to listen to live performances.
Sometimes there will be lesser-known pieces or by unfamiliar composers, but equally including well-known and popular pieces.
The church houses a modern Welmar grand piano, and the Congregational Church’s acoustics are said to be excellent.
The second and third recitals feature, respectively, Tim Matthews (piano) on July 30, and Jim Peters (songs on piano) on August 6. Both Tim and Jim were warmly applauded last August at the “Grand Piano on the Square” event, which sadly (for logistical reasons) won’t take place this year.
Tea, coffee, squash and cake-style snacks will be available when doors open at 3.30pm. There is some parking at the Congregational Church but otherwise nearby is the St Saviour’s car park. There is disabled access available at the church.
As at previous events, audience members are invited to “pay what you decide” with a guide of £5 aiming to cover the expenses of room hire, piano tuning, refreshments and other costs.
