SADLY due to various circumstances, there were only seven members present for Sandford Good Companions Annual Meeting, with six apologies.
After being given a warm welcome by chairman, Margaret Tucker, Charlie Werner, assisted by his six-year-old grandson Arthur, demonstrated how to use the microphone which can be used by any organisations in the village.
Secretary Margaret Phillips has put a book in the Sandford Community Stores for any organisation who wishes to borrow it, or telephone Charlie on 01363 772691.
Young Arthur demonstrated how easy it was to use, and even sang a song for members. Thank you Arthur.
Margaret Phillips read the minutes of the previous AGM, which were signed. Assistant Treasurer Mavis Harris, presented the accounts.
Chairman Margaret Tucker, suggested as their funds were in a healthy state, that perhaps members could benefit by having a free event.
It was agreed that this should be discussed at a full meeting of members. No-one volunteered to man a stall at the Queens 90th birthday celebrations, but the Companions will be giving a Draw Prize.
It was also agreed that members will provide a scarecrow for the Playgroup’s Scarecrow trail; decorate a tree for the Congregational Church Tree Festival and hold the usual Garden Party in August at the Rose and Crown.
President Judith Phillips and Pat Baker, agreed to organise the coach trip in September, destination to be discussed at the next meeting - ideas now invited.
Margaret Phillips gave details of the speakers, for 2016/17, which sounded excellent.
Derek Shapland said that as there were only seven people present, the election of officers should take place at their next meeting on May 5, with the meeting to start at 2pm, before the Speaker arrives.
Margaret Tucker said she does not wish to stand as chairman for another year. Margaret Phillips also said she would like someone to take over as secretary.
The next meeting is on Thursday, May 5, in the Congregational Church Hall, when Mo Turner will give a floral art demonstration. New members and visitors are very welcome.
