PRINCE Edward and his wife, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, have confirmed that they will be attending this month's Devon County Show.

The couple will attend on the opening day of the show, Thursday, May 21.

The three-day event runs until Saturday, May 23 and will, again, be held at Westpoint, near Exeter.

Prince Edward and Sophie will visit a range of stands and see the livestock while they are there.

Last year the show was attended by, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall and in 2006 there was a visit by the Duke of Gloucester.

Prince Charles and Camilla were visitors in 2005.

This year's Devon County Show will feature high-flying motorbike stunts, breath-taking displays of falconry on horseback, local food and drink and magnificent animals.

This year there is non-stop entertainment in six rings throughout the three days including Diggerland diggers, scurry driving, axe racing, vintage tractors, steam engines and performing dogs.

There will also be flowers and garden displays and non-stop entertainment.

This year there will be a spotlight on the affordability and accessibility of local food.

A series of cookery demonstrations will focus on how "buy local" makes sense taste-wise, nutritionally and financially.

Ollie Allen, Show secretary, said: "The County Show is a day out like no other.

"It will put a smile on everyone's face and create memories for years to come".

This year families are offered the best deals ever - for the first time children go free on half term Saturday, May 23, when accompanied by a paying adult.

Adult tickets cost £14.50 and the over 60s can get two tickets for just £12 when bought in advance.
