1. THE recent closure of Crediton’s High Street has shown that “through traffic” can be diverted.
The route, travelling east, being from the Tesco roundabout (via the link road and Jockey Hill) on to Western road or travelling from the west of the town, from Barnstaple Cross (via Jockey Hill and the link road) to the Tesco roundabout.
(Using a one-way system via Alexandra Road proved to be of paramount importance to the success of the designated diversion).
This worked relatively well except at peak times, which clearly demonstrated the reason why the route from Barnstaple Cross to the Tesco roundabout is not more widely used.
It does not seem sensible to be contemplating the building of houses at Pedlarspool until the route between Barnstaple Cross and Creedy Corner has been uprated.
One would have expected the Highways Authority to at least have made reference to the traffic problems that the planned development would produce?
2. Since the plan to build a new secondary school at Lords Meadow has been abandoned (hugely regrettable I have to say) why does the Rugby Club have to move?
Logic would dictate that there is now no need to shift it.
3. A very desirable cycling route is being planned to run between Crediton and Exeter.
For the benefit of residents at Pedlarspool, a cycle path running along the valley to Downs Mill ought to be considered.
Crediton to Exeter is a great idea, but having to climb Downes hill first?
