A TEMPORARY five-week road closure at Newton St Cyres has been announced by Devon County Council to enable road widening work to be carried out at Station Road.

It is anticipated that the work between Station Road and the A377 junction to Court Orchard junction will take place from Monday, March 20, with an anticipated finish of Friday, April 28.

The alternative, signed, route for vehicles will be via Station Cross, Norton Cross, Wainscot Cross, Langford Road, A377 and vice-versa.

The works are being completed as part of the scheme to build the new primary school and housing at Newton St Cyres.

Kingswood Homes has begun preparation works for the new school site, including felling a number of trees and traffic lights have been in operation in Station Road.

Kingswood Homes has asked children at Newton St Cyres Primary School to suggest names for the new housing estate.

The best names will be submitted to the road naming team at Mid Devon District Council.

Kingswood Homes has also sent the school some pictures for the children to colour in and return as part of the naming competition. The winning picture will be used in the publicity for the new development.
