AT the beginning of the year the Bishop of Exeter wanted to hold a dinner to celebrate those who cheerfully contributed to parish life and Rev Matthew Tregenza decided to nominate Alan Quick.
Since the dinner was first postponed, then cancelled because of Covid-19, a certificate and gift was sent to each nominee via their vicar.
Mr Tregenza said: “Alan richly deserves this award from the Bishop of Exeter as recognition of his hard work for our community.
“Many congratulations Alan and thank you for all that you do for the community in and around Crediton!”
In a letter with the award, the Rt Rev Robert Atwell, wrote: "I wanted to write to you personally to thank you for the service that you have given to your local community.
"I am grateful for all you bring to Crediton and the wider community.
"Thank you so much for your decades of service to journalism and for all your efforts in organising Crediton’s Diversity Festival to celebrate and reinforce the diversity and community spirit of Crediton.
"Community spirit is more important than ever in such testing times."
Alan said: "I was thrilled to receive this award from the Bishop of Exeter via Rev Matthew Tregenza.
"It is a privilege to serve the community, whether it is by presenting local news stories to people or raising issues of local concern.
"I am always delighted at how much people enjoy reading the newspaper.
"I believe that the Courier is trusted and respected, largely because we steer clear of sensationalising issues, attempting to keep our coverage objective and balanced."
Alan, who is well-known for his anti-racism, equality and diversity work, is a trustee of a number of local charities and organisations.
He is a member of the Christmas in Crediton committee, and is the organiser of the annual Crediton Diversity Festival.
He was one of a small group of people who pushed Devon County Council to adopt Saint Boniface of Crediton as Patron Saint of Devon, which was approved by Devon County Council on May 30, 2019.
