TO encourage walking on Crediton’s footpaths and thereby offer local people an opportunity to enhance the health of mind and body, Crediton Town Council will launch, Redvers Ramble, a circular walk in Crediton, at Crediton Farmers’ Market on Saturday, July 2.

Councillor Heather Sansom explained: “Redvers Ramble is a Crediton Town Council initiative by the Parish Paths Partnership Committee, a partnership with Devon County Council.

“It has been created specifically to offer an opportunity to the people of Crediton to enhance the health of mind and body

“The route is approximately four kilometres long and at a strolling pace takes around one-and-a-half hours.

“Route maps are available at various outlets in the town and at the Council Offices in Market Street.”

Heather added: “The map specifically suggests an anti-clockwise direction to eliminate any appreciable climbs.”

She explained that the route is clearly marked “Redvers Ramble” all on public footpaths,  which are mostly grass.

Heather continued: “It can provide the peace of solitude and at the same time bring about new friendships as there are numerous walking groups within the town.

“So enjoy the health-giving properties of green open spaces, and at the same time soak up the magnificent views we have around Crediton – all free of charge.”

The route includes Crediton Railway Station, Four Mills Lane, a view of the National Shrine of St Boniface, Barnfield Close, Yeolands House, Break Heart, the Railway at Salmonhutch and the River Yeo, all allowing some fantastic views as far distant as Dartmoor.

It is not suitable for those with limited ability, nor tramper vehicles or pushchairs and those walking on the route are advised to take special care at the level crossing and in the event of flooding.

All those walking on Redvers Ramble are asked to observe the Countryside Code: follow the way markers, leave the gates as you find them, take your litter home, keep your dogs under control, pick up dog mess and consider other people.

The council reminds people to please act responsibly around cattle and sheep and keep dogs on leads.

Detailed route leaflets depicting the sights and scenery to be enjoyed will be handed out to those who attend the launch on July 2 at 10.45am on Crediton Town Square.
