RECORD numbers visited the annual Crediton Seed Share: “Share, Grow, Eat”, held at the Boniface Centre on February 24, organised by the Sustainable Crediton Food Group.
The Seed Share was an opportunity to take along, share and exchange seeds we have saved from our gardens, with the aim of supporting bio-diversity, promoting heritage varieties, and encouraging people to grow their own vegetables.
There were also plenty of donated plants, bulbs and equipment to offer a new home. For information on seed swapping and how it is done, visit the Sustainable Crediton website on: sustainablecrediton.org.uk/food/grow-your-own/seed-swap .
Regular fixtures such as the Devon Wildlife Trust, Orchards Live and Bees with Imogen Hallam were welcomed back and of course there was entertainment from The Woodmen playing songs from their new album Shobrooke Moon.
Moving to the larger space of the Boniface Centre meant new stallholders could be invited. These including the RSPB, Significant Seams, Traidcraft, Holt Wood Medicinal Forest, Crediton Garden Club, Compost Doctors, the Crediton Pig Club and demonstrations on apple grafting by Dave Dann and simple propagation with Dee Ross, in line with our broader interest in sustainable living.
Sustainable Crediton’s Waste Group this year took over some of the catering, making a range of delicious soups from surplus food donated from Crediton businesses and to another business for donations of equipment for the children’s activities where they sowed seeds and made garden bird feeders.
If you were inspired by Share, Grow, Eat, and would like to join a small and very friendly group, you would be very welcome!
