I WAS horrified to read that Mid Devon District Council is planning to go ahead with Tiverton car park refurbishment at a cost of £800K (yes, that’s £800,000.00).

With the current pandemic situation I would have thought refurbishing a car park would be at the very bottom of anybody’s list.

Better use could be made of the money in SO MANY areas - in fact every area except car parks.

Please rethink your intentions and explain your reasoning for deciding to go ahead with this work, especially when once the pandemic eases the emphasis is going to be very much on encouraging the use of forms of transport other than the motor car.

The money would be far better off in this year’s budget, especially as I read that council budgets are likely to be reduced by at least 20 per cent as a result of the pandemic.
