“QUAKERS are coming out about our passion and work, instead of remaining in our tucked-away Meeting House,” says Laura Conyngham of Exeter Quakers.

“Quaker Week begins on Sunday, September 30 shortly after 8am on BBC Radio Devon with a Quaker perspective on the Sunday newspapers from Ghee Bowman, PhD student at Exeter University,” said Laura.

“It continues in St Stephen’s Church in the city’s High Street on Thursday, October 4 from 10am to 4pm displaying the involvement of many of our members who work hard in their different organisations: Rotary, Peace Shop, Street Pastors, Circles of Accountabilty and others.”

Free coffee and cake, lunches and tea, available throughout the day, will emphasise this year’s theme “Room for More”.

“Meeting for Worship 12.15pm to 3pm,” continues Laura, “will offer visitors a chance to sit quietly, with the support of others, trying out our individual, yet powerful method of worship.

“Since the 17th century Quakers have been rooted in stillness, in the belief that we all have a direct line to the divine and that actions speak louder than creeds. All will be welcome.”
