THIS month a team of five students from the fifth and sixth forms at Crediton's Queen Elizabeth's Community College is planning to take part an historic nationwide event to mark the death a century ago of Antarctic explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott, RN on Tuesday, September 13.
Students based all over the country will be entering teams to walk from John O' Groats to Land's End with the aim of raising funds to create adventure training opportunities and expedition scholarships for young people.
The team will also be raising funds to be split equally (12.5 per cent) between the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the Scott Polar Research Institute at Cambridge.
The teams will each pull wheeled sledges for five miles and Queen Elizabeth's team will be one of the teams representing Devon.
The team is seeking sponsorship from local people and businesses "We are not asking for a large sum" said group secretary, John Wright, adding "£50, £25 or even £10 would be greatly appreciated."
He went on: "We would like to come and talk to the staff of a business and give a presentation of what we aim to do and why."
Members of the Crediton team are: Amber Dopson-Crane, Charlotte Gowing, Georgia Sanders, Emma Shinn and Karleanne Tucker.
