A LOCAL vet has raised more than £3,800 for two charities close to her heart by shaving her head.

Former Queen Elizabeth’s School student Kt English-Baillie had her 26-inch locks cut off at Cruwys Morchard Village Hall on Sunday, July 6.

The money raised will be split between the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and the Little Princess Trust. The latter will also get her hair and make it into a wig for a youngster battling cancer or another illness.

Ms English-Baillie chose the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation as her father-in-law died of lung cancer almost a decade ago. Her husband’s aunt was also recently diagnosed with the same disease but has responded well to treatment and recently celebrated her 80th birthday.

The 31-year-old chose the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair to cancer treatment or other illnesses, as one of her friends was recently diagnosed with cancer and donated her hair before starting chemotherapy.

“It can cost around £700 to make and fit each wig so it was important to me to raise as much money as possible for them,” said Ms English-Baillie.

“The head-shave went well and with food and drink sales, a bake sale and auctioning off having a go with the scissors, we managed to raise nearly £500 on the day.

“We are very grateful to the wonderful Jeanette Brown, founding director of the More Positive Me CIC, for giving up her Sunday afternoon to cut and shave my head.

“The last time I had my hair cut was in 2022 when I got married and short hair is not something that I've ever had.

“Outside of work, my passion is horses so I'm going to have to work out how to get my riding hat to fit with no hair!”
