A CLAY shoot at Poughill raised more than £500 for the Exeter-based cancer charity FORCE.

The shoot was at The Barton, Poughill, the home of Philip and Anne Wander, and run by J M T Shooting of Pennymoor who set up clay shoots for charities.

Open winner was Paul Smith of Wellington who usually shoots with the Culm Valley Gun Club. He has been shooting clays since he was 10 years old.

Novice winner was 14 years old Luke Bradford of Black Dog. He also shoots clays with Culm Valley, is current holder of its Junior Cup and is a pupil at Chulmleigh Community College. He has been shooting clays for two years with his father, Steven.

Trophies were presented by Lady Joan Mills, president of FORCE and chairman of its Crediton branch. She also helped on the cake stall with Sue Brown, Heather Miles and others.

Mr and Mrs Wander had held a craft fair for FORCE two years ago, will be holding another in September. They wanted to do more to help the charity, Philip shoots clays, and so the day came about.

Refreshments were by Bow's Bites Catering from Exeter, run by Bow Gloyn of Kennford with her husband Brian, serving English and Thai food.
