"FANTASTIC NEWS" - that is how Cheriton Fitzpaine Primary School Head Teacher Wendy Harris described a decision which means her outdated primary school will be replaced with a brand new one - at a cost of £4 million.
Staff, parents, friends, councillors and local campaigners have battled for funding for a new school for more than 10 years.
The money has now been earmarked to replace the school with a new school in a field to the east of the village.
Wendy Harris, and other members of the school's staff, listened intently to the webcast of the Devon County Council executive committee at which the decision was reached.
In addition, Crediton's Queen Elizabeth's Community College has been granted £1.1 million for additional classrooms.
