EGGESFORD Hunt Supporters Club Duck Race and Hound Racing took place at Brushford Mill, near Coldridge, on August Bank Holiday Monday, by kind permission of the Tucker family.

A large crowd of people went along to enjoy the pleasant summer evening and watch thrilling races and activities.

Before the racing began a cheque for £1,000, raised at the Country Fair held at Crooke Meadow, North Tawton in June, was presented to a representative from Bow Surgery for the Friends of Bow Surgery Fund.

Dr Susan Taheri, who received the cheque, said that the money would go towards the purchase of a phlebotomy chair, a recliner chair which will be used at the surgery as people give blood and for other uses.

The presentation was made by Suzie Marles, Martin Tucker and Miriam Tucker.

The hound racing began and there was much fun trying to work out which one would win.

Bets could be made and there were also two children’s races.

The duck race is certainly the biggest in the area and was a spectacle with more than 1,000 ducks floating down the river.

Spectators lined the riverbank and there were even three judges to verify the ducks first past the post!

In addition there was welly throwing, games, stalls, a barbecue and bar.
