A 24-HOUR hair-cutting fundraiser has seen more than £1,300 raised and toy donations collected for children in war-torn Ukraine.

Nova Rose Barbers in Exeter, founded by Crediton barber Lewis Snow, hosted the event from 9.30am on Saturday, November 22 until 9.30am on Sunday, November 23.

The funds raised went to the Children of Ukraine project, founded by ex-soldier and humanitarian Steven Holland, which delivered the donated toys to Ukrainian orphanages in time for Christmas.

“The atmosphere across the full 24 hours was unreal,” said Mr Snow.

“We were joined by an amazing number of local businesses and members of the Exeter and Crediton communities.

“We received an overwhelming amount of donated toys and aid, generously given by friends, family, loyal customers, and the wider local community.

“We were also fortunate to receive backing from some incredible luxury barber brands, which allowed us to put together goodie bags for everyone involved.

“That level of support really helps us make these events feel special and keeps people coming together for a good cause.

“Our next event will be in partnership with Bang Bang Boxing, a local non-profit boxing club in Crediton.

“The aim will be to raise further funds for children in Ukraine, while also supporting Bang Bang Boxing themselves, who do incredible work locally and have personally helped me with fitness, confidence, and training.”

Mr Snow also co-ordinated another barbering marathon on Tuesday, November 5 at the University of Exeter, which raised £1,300 for charity Movember.

Eight barbers from four Exeter salons snipped more than 100 students’ hair in under five hours during the “Barber Bash”.

The event was held in partnership with the university’s student-led Movember committee “to raise awareness and funds for men’s mental health, suicide prevention, and the fight against prostate and testicular cancer”.
