ALLIES Mid Devon is a community group based in Tiverton which is planning to co-ordinate a project across the whole of the Mid Devon district to plant 130,000 plus mixed daffodils as a way of remembering those people we have lost to Covid-19, whilst also brightening local spaces every year with a burst of colour.
During 2021/22 the group managed to plant 50,000 bulbs across various locations in Mid Devon, which enhanced the natural environment and it received lots of positive feedback, including from the Tiverton in Bloom judges on their recent visit.
This is a project that could include small patches of land, or large swathes - wherever people living nearby feel would be most appreciated.
Clearly, Allies Mid Devon cannot do all the planting and hopes that local communities might organise this themselves.
This year Allies Mid Devon is looking to plant a further 80,000 plus daffodils and will be supplying the bulbs free-of-charge.
This has been enabled by the generosity of local people and the hard work of volunteers in raising funds for the project.
The next delivery of bulbs will arrive in September and the group is keen to hear from any Mid Devon towns or villages that would like to get involved in planting bulbs to enhance their natural environment.
The bulbs are supplied in sacks of 500, so if your council or group is interested, please either email Allies Mid Devon at: [email protected] or contact their Vice Chairman, Luis Gordon on 07931 969292 (please leave a message and someone will get back to you).
