JAYNE Clemence, from Colebrooke, recently went to Buckingham Palace in London to receive an MBE from Prince Charles.

In June this year, Jayne was included in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her contribution to the Magistracy, and for community work locally.

Jayne said the invitation to the Palace was a truly amazing experience, walking through the Palace gates, to the inner courtyard and into the Palace itself.

Jayne continued: “Red and gold leaf staircases led to the Investiture room and those receiving their awards waited in eager anticipation, surrounded by people with wonderful stories and so many different reasons for their awards.

“The Investiture was held in the State Banqueting room, as families and friends looked on with real pride and joy.

“The hushed audience watched and listened to Royal Chamber music in the background.

“As each recipient went forward, Prince Charles showed great interest and warmth, making the experience so personal.

“After the ceremony, there were official photos and a personalised film produced for each person receiving their award-entitled the ‘Pathway of Honour’.

“As the ceremony drew to a close, we returned to the outside world, knowing this had been a very special day and a great honour.”

Jayne was accompanied by her husband Paul and close family.

For 23 years Jayne has been a Magistrate in London and more recently in Devon in Adult, Youth and Family courts, and latterly as Chair of the Bench for North and East Devon.

In the village of Penstone, Colebrooke, Jayne has been chair of the Penstone Glade Community Association for some 15 years.

The Glade is a community hub enjoyed by many people in the Parish of Colebrooke and beyond.
