AT a time like this when people need a bit of cheer, Crediton's floral display is one of the best, says a man who was in business in the town for almost 50 years.
Complimenting the town traders, Tom Connell also thanks Mid Devon District Council for giving extra hanging baskets and Crediton Town Council for its financial contribution.
Tom used to run Crediton Food Fayre on the High Street. He is now co-ordinator for Crediton Area Marketing and Management (CAMM).
While praising everyone who added to the floral displays, Tom said CAMM was disappointed at the notable gaps in the displays through the main part of the town, including two major banks and two or three of the bigger pubs.
"When the chips are down is a time to make the town more attractive," said Tom. "The money the town council put in paid for an extra 20 hanging baskets to compliment those of the traders.
"The district council does the displays such as the 'wedding cake' planters, the hanging baskets outside the parish church and those on the railings along Union Terrace. They have done a darn good job.
"It is such a shame some of the major banks and public houses have not been able to contribute this year, perhaps they will be able to next year."
CAMM is an initiative of Crediton Chamber of Commerce and organises things such as the hanging baskets and Christmas lights in the town. It is now scheming a marketing campaign for the town. You have been warned!
