FIREFIGHTERS have been praised after rescuing an ill man from a property in Crediton.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call reporting a smoke alarm sounding and the smell of burning at a property at Cockles Rise in Crediton at about 8.26pm yesterday, Friday, February 1.
Fire control immediately sent two fire appliances from Crediton, one fire appliance from Danes Castle, Exeter and a duty officer.
On arrival the incident commander confirmed a fire involving a pan left on the hob within the property.
Crews got to work, with two in breathing apparatus, and carried the man from the property.
The crews removed the pan and switched off the hob.
They used a positive pressure ventilation fan to remove the smoke from the property.
The incident commander requested the attendance of an ambulance for the man, who was suffering with smoke inhalation.
The incident commander confirmed the property was 20 per cent smoke damaged.
It was recorded that it was an accidental ignition.
