GUEST speaker at the 41st Charter Anniversary dinner of the Lions Club of Crediton and District was Lion John May, from Lichfield, who worked extensively for the Talking Newspaper Federation and helped to resurrect the Crediton Talking Newspaper, which is read from the pages of the “Crediton Courier”, five years ago.

After it was resurrected, the Lions Club of Crediton and District has run the Crediton Talking Newspaper scheme with the support of a number of local volunteer readers and the support of the “Crediton Courier”.

It has become a resounding success with dozens of people in the community receiving the newspaper each week on a memory stick which is then put into a reader, provided to the person by the Lions Club, to enable them to listen to the recordings.

Mr May talked about the scheme and was thanked for his efforts.

The second guest was former Crediton Rector, Prebendary Anthony Geering.

Crediton’s President, Lion Peter Bryan welcomed almost 50 guests to the dinner which was held at Downes Crediton Golf Club.

Guests from neighbouring Lions Clubs were among the guests.

If anyone knows of anyone who is partially sighted or blind who would like to receive the Crediton Talking Newspaper, they can find out more information from Lion Peter Bryan on 01363 773437.
