Bert and Margaret Jewell, unable to purchase plants for the town’s flower beds and planters this year due to lockdown measures, grew their own and donated them to help brighten the town.
The couple care for a number of flower beds and the flower towers in the town square on behalf of Crediton Town Council, as well as elsewhere in the town.
In addition they both volunteer to care for trees and other areas in the town.
Crediton Town Councillor Michael Szabo, who co-ordinates Crediton’s Britain in Bloom entry each year, was full of praise for the couple.
He said: “Bert, as a volunteer, has been doing the yearly maintenance on the trees in the town square.
“He and four other volunteers recently picked up 18 bags of branches on the town square and took them to Punchbowl Recycling Centre.
“Then he also cut all the weeds growing in Exeter Road between Four Mills Lane and Park Road and took 12 bags to Punchbowl.
“Bert is part of the volunteers who work year-round to clean and green up the town to help prepare it for its annual entry into the Britain in Bloom (BIB) competition.
